Show Notes-

This episode of Cultivating the Lovely is special for two reasons. First, it is all about Christmas traditions and holiday favorites. And second, MacKenzie is introducing all three of her new cohosts who will be on the show regularly in 2018! So grab a cup of your favorite hot beverage, turn on the Christmas lights, sit back and enjoy the show!

Leah Boden:

You can find Leah at her websites and as well as Instagram and Facebook.

  • Why did you decide to be a cohost?  It was a great invitation to share broader aspects of life rather than just homeschooling. It is a chance to have conversations about a wide variety of topics related to cultivating a lovely life amidst the real struggles.

  • Tell us about your English Christmas: Leah has spent Christmas in the U.S. twice and in Norway once. Many of the traditions and decorations are fairly similar in America and England (except that they have castles, the Queen and Father Christmas!) Turkey is the big main dish at Christmas, and they have several traditional foods not as common in the States, such as mince pie.

Jodi McKenna:

You can find Jodi on her websites and as well as Instagram and Twitter.

  • Why did you decide to be a cohost? It is an opportunity to get to speak into the lives of other women and have a sort of mentorship relationship through the podcast community.

  • Christmas traditions:
    • Having different themed ornaments decorating the tree every year.
    • Three gifts for kids: want, need, something for spiritual growth.
    • Having a birthday party for Jesus and cake in the kid’s bedrooms
    • Hunt for the wise men on Christmas morning
  • Christmas tree—real or fake? MacKenzie has always preferred artificial, but now she is considering a real flocked tree in the future. Jodi wants a real tree, but her family wanted a fake one, so that’s what they have now.

Erin Odom:

You can find Erin on her website as well as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

  • Why did you decide to be a cohost? I want to be an encouragement to the listeners, and I knew immediately when MacKenzie asked that it was something I wanted to do.
  • Tell us about your favorite Christmas traditions:
    • Three gifts for each child: something they want, something they need, something for their spiritual growth (i.e.-devotional books, bible themed coloring books for preschoolers, Noah’s ark toy for the baby)
    • Let the kids sleep in the living room in sleeping bags on Christmas Eve Eve after watching The Nativity Story

  • Have you experienced Christmas in another country/culture? Puerto Rico trip right after Christmas, caroling at people’s houses, then were invited in and fed
  • Favorite thing about Christmas time: just having a time to really step back and focus on worshipping God for the gift of Jesus
