Show Notes-

Here on the first episode of Cultivating the Lovely in 2018, MacKenzie is joined by co-host Erin Odom of The Humbled Homemaker. Together they chat about their own journeys to a more “crunchy” lifestyle.

MacKenzie and Erin discuss various aspects of crunchy living, including:

  • What it means to be “crunchy”.
  • How each of them started using a more natural lifestyle.
  • Erin’s first book, all about cloth diapering: Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert.
  • How some aspects of crunchy living actually saved them money, while others can be more expensive.
  • Natural pregnancy and birth choices and why they made some of them.

1

  • How to approach crunchy living without feeling like you have to do it all.
  • Not feeling guilty about making conventional choices in some areas while choosing more natural options in others.
  • Having grace with yourself and not stressing yourself. If you are stressed about trying to do “all the things,” you are sabotaging your efforts.
  • How their crunchiness has changed over the years in different stages of parenting.

2

  • Not making crunchy living choices more important than other people. Being crunchy should be something you do, not where you find your identity.
  • A few tips for anyone wanting to start living a more natural lifestyle:
    • Choose to eat more whole foods instead of processed foods.
    • Just make one change at a time–baby steps!
    • Find one area of crunchy living that excites you and pursue that.
    • Here is Erin’s Homemade Deodorant Recipe

Current Lovelies-

Loved this episode! Would definitely recommend looking into menstrual cups- simplifies things so much!
Also, I found this great company called Earthley that has awesome, simple, organic products (skin care, herbal extracts, soaps, salves, pregnancy/postpartum/baby items) all for really affordable prices. Has really helped me avoid so many conventional items and keep my family healthy without breaking the bank. bit.ly/2umf1n7
