I am just so, so excited to be bringing to you today an interview with Sally and Sarah Clarkson! Now, If any of you know me at all, you know I love me some Sally! I have been reading her books for years and was absolutely delighted to get to have her and her daughter on the podcast to promote their new book The Life Giving Home that just came out this week. It has a companion guide that goes along with it, and it is just perfect for our community because it is all about – wait for it – cultivating the loveliness in our homes and lives!
Most importantly – Sally and Sarah share that this loveliness isn’t the same for everyone. Nor should it be. And it’s not about us being perfect, but about going forward in the power of Christ to create a place of tradition and life for our families. We have to be careful the influences we let into our lives which are telling us the right and wrong ways we should be cultivating our homes, children and family traditions.
Building a home isn’t about racing to see how you can out-do the latest Pinterest posting – but that doesn’t mean we should just sit back and say, “well, I’ll never be like so-and-so” – and then not work to make any loveliness in our lives at all. Building a life giving home is about finding a balance between the picture-perfect and the real nitty-gritty of life. Building a home isn’t something that happens over night – or even a few weeks or months! It is hard work. Really hard! And it takes time. But, just because something feels hard, doesn’t mean it’s not right.
Building a live giving home is building a place for our families to come to be restored and refreshed form the business of life. A place our children can learn the expectations, habits, and rhythms of life that we want them to hide in their hearts. A place everyone longs to be because it gives freedom and grace to those who enter.
