CTLP Episode 11- Creating a Lifegiving Home with Sally & Sarah Clarkson

(Scroll to bottom for the giveaway!)

I am just so, so excited to be bringing to you today an interview with Sally and Sarah Clarkson! Now, If any of you know me at all, you know I love me some Sally! I have been reading her books for years and was absolutely delighted to get to have her and her daughter on the podcast to promote their new book The Life Giving Home that just came out this week. It has a companion guide that goes along with it, and it is just perfect for our community because it is all about – wait for it – cultivating the loveliness in our homes and lives!

Most importantly – Sally and Sarah share that this loveliness isn’t the same for everyone. Nor should it be. And it’s not about us being perfect, but about going forward in the power of Christ to create a place of tradition and life for our families. We have to be careful the influences we let into our lives which are telling us the right and wrong ways we should be cultivating our homes, children and family traditions.

Building a home isn’t about racing to see how you can out-do the latest Pinterest posting – but that doesn’t mean we should just sit back and say, “well, I’ll never be like so-and-so” – and then not work to make any loveliness in our lives at all. Building a life giving home is about finding a balance between the picture-perfect and the real nitty-gritty of life. Building a home isn’t something that happens over night – or even a few weeks or months! It is hard work. Really hard! And it takes time. But, just because something feels hard, doesn’t mean it’s not right.

Building a live giving home is building a place for our families to come to be restored and refreshed form the business of life. A place our children can learn the expectations, habits, and rhythms of life that we want them to hide in their hearts. A place everyone longs to be because it gives freedom and grace to those who enter.

Lovely podcast episode! I’m eager to receive my copies of the books soon. I’m most excited to read about crafting meaningful holiday traditions.

  2. Melinda

It’s so easy to get into boring routines and forget how special it is to be living life with the beautiful creatures God blessed us with for family. I look forward to reawakening my creative side and making my house a home for my little people (very quickly becoming big) and husband.

  3. Tara H

My husband and I have been married for 15 years and have lived with his parents (in their house) for the past 12 years. We are almost to the point where we can get our own place so I’d love to read this book and implement things that I’ll no doubt learn from it.

  4. Brooke

I’m so excited for this book! I tend to be very realistic and practical, and I love that Sally is very idealistic, and has a way of drawing you in wih Her own experiences! I can’t wait to read it, I’m hoping to feel refreshed about leading my family more toward Jesus!

  5. Terri S

Loved, loved, loved this podcast. So excited to see what “The LifeGiving Home” will do to encourage women all over the world! Thank you for this opportunity!

  6. Kari

I have really been struggling with direction in my life, and feel that I am just too busy and crowded to really feel I am making a difference with my kids and those around me. I am most looking forward to reading this book for a little motivation and clarity on what my purpose should be for this season of life with young children at home!

  7. Kate

Loved the interview, MacKenzie–thank you! I’m most looking forward to learning more about how I can implement meaningful practices and traditions that everyone in the family will enjoy that are life giving (not draining or stressful!).

  8. Kate

I loved your first season, MacKenzie! I need to catch up on this season. I’m so looking forward to hearing you talk with Sally and Sarah! I always feel very encouraged by Sally!

  9. Susana

Loved loved this episode. I aspire to have a family culture like hers. May God give us all grace. Thank you MacKenzie for having her on!

  10. Amy Serrao

Loved Sally and Sarah’s message about living a life of joy with your family in the midst of all of our lovely differences. Something I know that I need to always keep in mind, God gives us grace.

  11. Kristina

I’m really looking forward to learning about the concept of rhythms. I can get really caught up by following strict routines and schedules and it sounds like I need to give myself more grace.

  12. Catherine @ A Spirited Mind

I’m looking forward to hearing about how the Clarksons cultivated home as a place of peace and refuge even though they said in the podcast that they are not a quiet, docile family! I’ve made a lot of choices about our home and routines based on trying to calm things down (we are a spirited family of seven) but can always use more inspiration!

  13. Rachel

I really enjoyed this podcast! I would love to win this book and think it would be great to do with my Mom’s group.
