Show Notes-

On this episode, MacKenzie chats with Jess Connolly about her new book, Dance, Stand, RunJess is married to Nick, and they and their four children live in Charleston, SC, where they are church planters.

Here are some of the main points from Jess and MacKenzie’s discussion:

  • Dance, Stand, Run came about because Jess was struggling with the pendulum swing between grace and holiness.
  • We tend to think of the concept of balance as being a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but a Biblical understanding of grace and holiness is all of both at the same time.
  • Using the example of conflict, we should address the issue with grace but also with truth, not ignoring the offense, but also extending forgiveness and reconciliation.

  • How Jess included close friends to check her story and make sure she accurately represented the Lord and her own story.
  • Making prayer an ongoing conversation with God:
We need to change our perspective on prayer from something we are obligated to do, to a privilege that we get to enjoy.
  • Holiness:
We don’t have to go somewhere to become holy.
We need look at where we are at, what God has said about us, and believe what He says He will do.

  • How do we start going forward to balance grace and holiness?
    1.  Get into Scripture.
    2.  Get accountable with a friend who will go on this journey with you.
    3.  Get Jess’s book.
  • What are some ways to make time for Scripture and prayer in your daily life?
—Taste and see: experiment with what it feels like to miss out on your time with the Lord.
—It needs to become a NEED, not an option.
