Fall study in 1 John- Join my Group!

As summer is coming to a close so is the Precept Upon Precept Study I have been doing in Matthew with some sweet online friends (Granola Mom 4 God and Sarah @ Simply Sarah). I had been praying about what to do next, because you see, the study we were doing only went through chapter 13 of Matthew, and while I would very much like to finish the book out I felt a tugging to jump in on the 1 John study starting over at Good Morning Girls. As this last week has progressed I have felt a more strong resolve to become a part of this study for a few reasons:

  • You actually write out the entire book of 1 John over the 12 week period.
  • You study each and every verse.
  • It has the same sort of inductive style that I have grown to love.
  • It gives me the opportunity to hopefully connect with more of you on a faith and fellowship level.

This last reason is a huge one for me. You see, as Rhythm is starting kindergarten and most of our friend’s children are starting out on their own educational paths as well, I have been encountering a tremendous sense of being alone. Almost all of the friends we have built relationships with over the last 5+ years are heading in different directions and really coming to that point where their families are becoming more defined. For those who are sending their children to school they have more free time than they ever had before, while I, on the other hand, have more on my plate than ever before because I now have the added responsibility of my son’s education. Our free time isn’t as free as it used to be. Hanging out during the day is a much less feasible option. At times, all this boldness of mine with the choices in life that my husband and I make, can leave me feeling, well, lonely. I am no less affirmed that they are the right choices, but they do leave me looking around bleakly at the very few people who have remained in my circle of friendship or fellowship.

All the same I also realize I am on the brink of a whole new thing God is doing in our lives. I know that He is going to be bringing about new friendships with people who are in similar places as we are in and strengthening those we already know who are following similar paths. In this in-between time however, before the year has really gotten off to a roll, it is a little daunting and isolated. I know the tides will be changing with in a matter of weeks, I am just trying to hang on until then.

With all that said however, one place that I have always been able to actually use my boldness as an advantage in friendship rather than a deterrent (as it can often be in real life) is online. There is something about this blogging and social media platform, most likely the breadth of those that it reaches, that has allowed me to find wonderful like-minded ladies to share with, pray with and get to know on a friendship level, even across all the miles. Connecting with my readers and actually building friendships with them is something I have always wanted for this blog and I think that right now, with this 1 John study, it might be the perfect time to spur some of those friendships on a little bit deeper.

So this is where you come in- do you want to join with me in this study of 1 John with the Good Morning Girls? Do you want to connect daily in the Word, pray for each other, have accountability and just love on one another? If you do, if you read my blog and think “yeah, I’m like-minded with her!” and you want to fellowship online with some other similarly like-minded ladies (and possibly in through a snail-mail component that I will discuss more later if I get enough interest), then would you let me know?

If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of then I would ask you to pray about it and if your heart feels tugged with a gentle “yes,” then come back here and leave a comment letting me know you would like to join my group. If you could also let me know your preferred method of group communication, that would be super helpful too (ie Twitter, Facebook, Blogfrog, Google+). Once I see how many people are in I will sort out all the details and contact you by email to get us all set and rolling for the kick-off warm-up date of September 15!

I am really looking forward to this and think it could be an awesome opportunity for growth in the Word and in friendship! Let’s get to know our Jesus better together! I look forward to hearing from you!

Oh fun Betsy!! So glad to have you! It seems like we are kind of all over the map for communication preference, so I’m going to have to figure out what will work best. As soon as I know, you’ll know!

I think this sounds awesome. I would love to join your study group. Any connection, ie FB or google, etc would be ok with me. My work limits me getting to join study groups at my Church.

    Here’s a God-thing story:
I was just this morning thinking of doing something similar. I have been struggling with my own personal QT and need some accountability. I thought of using my own blog as a springboard, but wasn’t sure ‘how’….then I come across this post….yes, I’m interested :)
I’d like facebook to be the form of communication as I am most familiar with it.

I would like to join in as well, I can be reached through e-mail, or FB is fine with me.
Turquoise is a favorite of mine, both the color and the gem. :)

    Thanks!

I would love to join your group as well. I’ve been struggling to keep up with my church’s bible study because I struggle to do something every day, as I have two preschoolers and I’m easily distracted. Help! ;oP Fb is great for me too.

I know I’m a little late to the “party,” but I would also like to join your group if you still have room. I’ve just learned about the 1 John study this morning through Proverbs 31 Ministries. I’ve been looking for a new study and this one is very similar to how I do my devotions in the morning, so it would be perfect. I can do any form for the communication.

    Thanks,
    Kimberly

I was wondering if I could still join your GMG Bible Study group? I live in ND and have 4 children, ages 13, 11, 9, and 4. Thanks.
