That’s right, I got all crazy up in here and figured out our verses for the #HeartinHandChallenge for the entire first quarter of 2017! Before you get too impressed, note that we are just walking through one entire book (and you can see a sneak peek of what the next book will be in the last week of the quarter).
Before I go into explaining why and how this year’s challenge is set up though, let me welcome those of you who are new to the challenge! We are so happy to have you! If this is your first time doing the #HeartinHandChallenge, be sure to check out this post and this post for more background, ideas and how the whole things works. Basically, though, the general idea is that by writing out a short section of scripture every day you are able to more deeply ponder it and cement it in your heart. It is a simple, daily practice with big returns.
The Reason for One Book-
Anyhow! I decided to go this one-book route for a few reasons this year. I have always loved the continuity of walking straight through a piece of scripture. I think you are able to gather more context and not miss out on any key components that you might not notice if you were just studying topically. It is important for us to understand the entire breadth of scripture, so I felt like this would be a good step forward for our challenge.
Another reason that I decided for us to write out entire books this year is that I wanted to keep things manageable while also allowing room for deeper study for those who may want to take it further. By just writing one, occasionally 2, verses a day (and having weekends for catch-up and family time, which is also new with this year’s challenge) you can decide to read a commentary alongside your verse writing, or better yet, dive into an inductive study. I really enjoy these, fairly short inductive studies published by Precepts–
As always, ladies will be sharing some of their daily writing and musings on our verses by using the #heartinhandchallenge hashtag on social media. I constantly hear from women who say that this daily challenge not only helps them grow closer to the Lord and His Word but that they love seeing other women’s work scroll through their feed as it brings back a consistent reminder of theses verses throughout their day. I find it so encouraging to be participating in this practice with such an amazing community of women! Be sure to also join our Facebook group if you haven’t already done so.
Oh, and one of my favorite little features about this quarter’s bookmark is that it’s foldable! So you can keep all three months neatly together in one spot! Check it out!
