Project sneak peek!

I wasn’t going to post anything about this project until it was finished. Then I did the math and realized that I had about 176 squares to go, so I should probably just give you guys a little teaser!

Remember this post by Rose Hip I mentioned last week (which I also pinned on Pinterest)? Well, I jumped in a little sooner than I thought, grabbed some yarn from JoAnns, watched a few YouTube crochet videos to freshen up my very stale skills, and took the plunge.

I’m typically more of a knitter. I actually bought a book during my freshman year of college and taught my whole floor by the end of the week. All we could make were scarves, but oh buddy, our late-night knit-ins insured that nearly half the campus was prepared for the frigid Montana winter!

Why yes, I did live in the all-girls dorm! Why do you ask?!

That year a friend also taught me one basic crochet stitch to make a blanket, which has yet to be finished almost a decade later. Someday I’ll like those colors again, right?

Anyhow, when I started cloth diapering I further developed my knitting skills, took some classes so I would whip up some cute pants for my boy, and would now consider myself to be intermediate, even if it’s been a while since I took on a project. My crochet hooks, however, have laid lonely and bare, save for a few embellished hems on some knitting projects, until now.

These flower squares were surprisingly easier to figure out than I anticipated. I took a bit with the first one but now I’m rollin’! Well, I have four done anyway. Once I have all 180 finished I plan to crochet them all together with black, just to really define the squares.  I also might by a pale yellow to throw into the mix.

I like having a project like this to work on because it doesn’t take much brain power and is just plain relaxing.  It gives me something to do with my hands at night while I watch TV with The Carpenter.  So, at this rate I’ll probably be done somewhere right around the time that we decide to sell our house and move next year- just in time to liven up a brand new space!  For now I’ll just keep pluggin’ away!  Wish me luck!

I am so impressed! You are needing a little girl to knit for….Just in case you run out of friends in Washington to knit for, I might have to commission you to do some flower clips for my little girl’s hair. 🙂
