Welcome to BOLD Turquoise!

The Mama behind BOLD Turquoise~

My name is MacKenzie and this is my little bloggy space!

At this point in my life I am wife to The Carpenter, mama to two little boys- Rhythm (5) and Lion Cub (1 1/2), and the bulk of my life revolves around taking care of them and daily turning our small house into a home full of big life.  We are also a homeschooling, home-discipling family, own our own carpentry company, and I oversee a blogging program for a ministry for moms (more on that later).  So, needless to say- my plate is full.

But in those small moments that I am able to carve out for myself- I write.  While mostly I blog, I am also working on my first novel and truly aspire to be a published author.  Beyond that I enjoy a variety of crafty outlets, but mostly, I write.

Oh, and well, I just might have grown up as big fish in a small city’s theatre and film community with a brother born with spinabifida, a mom who seemed to do it all, I dad who worked hard, insane hours, and the most doting grandmother and great-grandmother on the planet!  And maybe I graduated highschool a year early, headed off to college in another state at 17, got married at 19 and had my first baby at almost 22.  But… I’m sure you’ll hear more about all that in the months and years to come!  For now, I’d like to tell you a little bit more about my blog.

The story behind BOLD Turquoise~

BOLD turquoise is new to the blogging world, but I am not.  You may recognize me from The Mama Kenz Studio, where I blogged for three and a half years, or from The World According to Them, my family and homeschool blog.

For some time I loathed my primary blog’s name, The Mama Kenz Studio.  I created it when I was still very new to blogging and just couldn’t come up with anything better, so I went with it.  As time wore on and I began to build a small readership I became very hesitant to stray from my name but continued to dislike not only it but where my blog was headed as well.  It all felt so surface.  Blog reviews and giveaways seemed to be what drew people in and while I love free stuff, that just wasn’t the heart of blogging for me.  I got burnt out and frustrated, writing less and less.

Then one day it really hit me- if The Mama Kenz Studio wasn’t where the Lord wanted me, if it wasn’t the way He wanted me to blog, then my meager following would stay meager, my blog would continue to be a drain rather than a joy, and I would never reach my full blogging impact or potential.

I decided to break ties.

Start fresh.

Not an easy decision I tell you, but one that couldn’t have come at a better time.  I had just come to grips with the fact that I had been suffering from prolonged postpartum depression for the previous 19 months and was faced with the jarring reality that I needed to focus more on my family than myself.  I stripped my blog to the barest, only most required posts and waited.  And waited.  I toyed with names and blogging ideas.  I read other blogs and absorbed.  I tossed my potential names at my mother and husband.  Then I waited some more.

In the mean time I kept plenty busy as the Head Mama and creator of The Gabby Moms, a blogging program for Eternal Encouragement Magazine, planning for our next year of homeschooling and trying to regain my grip on life.  Then one day, as I sat and worked on my computer, it hit me- BOLD Turquoise!  It was perfect!  It gave me the room I wanted to be the kind of blogger I wanted to be, without rigidly defined lines, but also said a lot about who I am and the life I am living. I am a rather bold person with bold convictions, opinions and ideas, living in an equally bold family full of men (as of now, a husband and two little boys).  And well, as far as I’m concerned, turquoise is the girliest shade of blue- if I’m going to be surrounded by blue I might as well do it with a shade I love!

I’m not going to tell you what you are going to find here, because I don’t want to set those kinds of parameters around this space.  What I can tell you is that I will always be honest and I will do my best to be fun.  From time to time I might even have something interesting that you could even learn from.  Who knows- it could happen!

For now, all I really want to tell you is~

Welcome, to BOLD Turquoise!

LOVE it!!! following along! great blog and I know how you feel that is why I took over butterfly wishes and made it my nature/art blog for the kids that was in my heart not the old stuff I was posting on it. I’m about ready to break all book review ties. how did the marmee’s blog sponsor thing work out? did it just move here or did you break with that? curious since have a few blog sponsors.

Technically my sponsorship was only a 6 month commitment, which was up last month. Although I don’t plan to display her buttons here, I will still be linking to her in my baking posts and hope to generate more interest for her site.
